Klein Marine Systems, a global leader in sonar technology based in Salem, New Hampshire, recently dedicated the Klein Sonar Innovation Lab at UNH’s John Olson Advanced Manufacturing Center. UNH retained its R1 classification for highest research activity from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, the organization announced today, securing its spot among the nation’s most productive research universities.
“UNH stands out for its robust research enterprise and steadfast focus on bringing ideas to impact,” UNH President Elizabeth S. Chilton said. “The R1 classification highlights the strength and innovation of our research community to funders, students and the people of New Hampshire.”

Thanks to a $3 million gift, the University of New Hampshire’s Center for Sustainable Seafood Systems will expand its global reach by creating an educational program that will focus on community-based seafood production for students from around the world to implement aquaculture techniques specific to their culture and communities.
