Close to 100 styrofoam cups were hand decorated by skilled artisans (science crew), who toiled days and nights to create specialized gifts for their sweethearts, friends, and family so far away.

Submerged to 2000m in the CTD, the standard drinking cup shrinks under the high pressure, ending up 1/3 of its original size. Who knows, perhaps some of these valuable items may be for sale as the holidays close in on us.…stay posted for the opportunity to purchase a unique souvenir from this scientific voyage! I have been painting portraits of the crew, seascapes, and attempting some deep sea creatures, based on Chief Scientist Joe Warren’s photos. I’m painting with actual 2000m deep sea water, their natural habitat, to make them feel at home.

A sperm whale blow about 500m from the ship was sighted by several scientists around 5pm. Mackenzie CLAIMS she saw the dorsal fin. I, as usual, saw nothing.
