Close to 100 styrofoam cups were hand decorated by skilled artisans (science crew), who toiled days and nights to create specialized gifts for their sweethearts, friends, and family so far away.
I have been painting portraits of the crew, seascapes, and attempting some deep sea creatures, based on Chief Scientist Joe Warren’s photos. I’m painting with actual 2000m deep sea water, their natural habitat, to make them feel at home.
A sperm whale blow about 500m from the ship was sighted by several scientists around 5pm. Mackenzie CLAIMS she saw the dorsal fin. I, as usual, saw nothing.
