ADEON data is collected from instruments: 1) making measurements while underway during the deployment, harvesting, and redeployment of our bottom-landers (e.g. EK80, ES60, CTD, net tows, and marine mammal observations) along with various "Ship Data" collected during each cruise as part of the vessel's participation in the Rolling Deck to Repository (R2R); and 2) the bottom-lander instruments (e,g, AMAR, AZFP, CTD, Fish Tag Counter) that collect data for 6-12 months at a fixed location.
Each ADEON cruise report describes the data that has been collected while underway, or harvested from the bottom-landers during that specific cruise. If you would like to know more about the data being collected, please click on our website's "Cruise Information" and "About" menu items at the top of this page. R2R catalogs and submits the underway environmental sensor data routinely acquired on research expeditions to long-term public archives, including the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). Ship Data from each cruise are submitted directly to R2R by the vessel operator, rather than by the science party.

About the ADEON AZFP Community Structure Dataset: One of the ADEON Ecological Modeling objectives was to describe how changes in abundance and distribution of the forage assemblage varies relative to warm and/or poor and cool and/or good productivity years off the US east coast. ADEON achieved long-term measurements of the presence of non-vocalizing marine life to record the abundance and community structure of fish and zooplankton. Single beam scientific echosounders were part of the network design at three sites; VAC, HAT, and JAX see https://adeon.unh.edu/landers.
Species-specific community assemblage metrics were obtained, in part, from the acoustic zooplankton fish profilers (AZFPs) stationed at those sites. The multi-frequency echosounders were used to measure the presence of animals of different size classes. The echosounder transducers were positioned on the seabed looking upwards to image the full water column where the frequency attenuation permitted. Information from station net tows informed the 6 scattering categories (Non-Resonant Small, Non-Resonant Medium, Non-Resonant Large, Resonant Small, Resonant Large, and Unidentified. Echoview software was used to export Sv and NASC for each scattering group in hourly resolution to provide a measure of community structure for the ecological modeling effort. As part of the ADEON project, the modeled soundscape for wind and shipping noise for a select set of frequencies was computed. Each movie depicts a single hour within a 24 hour day. This collection includes each day from 06-01-2019 through 06-30-2019. These are snapshot movies of the ocean wind and shipping noise soundscape for the Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf. The computational box spans the region from 27° North to 45° North and from 81.5° West to 64° West. The frequency computed was 50Hz. Each mp4 has the soundscape level at 10m water depth in dB/uPa^2 plotted from 50 to 100 dB. The color indicates the local ambient sound level ranging from blue (black) for levels at or below 50 dB/uPa^2 to red (for regions at or above 100 dB/uPa^2). |
